MFA in Directing, Columbia University

Josefina F. Estrella is full professor of dramaturgy and directing. She obtained her MFA in Directing from Columbia University (New York City) through a Fulbright scholarship. She has regularly directed original versions, as well as adaptations and Filipino translations of world classics and contemporary works. She has collaborated with various institutions such as Instituto Cervantes, the Japan Foundation, the Embassy of Norway, Setagaya Public Theatre, and the Cultural Center of the Philippines  for the staging of acclaimed performance pieces in both scholarship and the box-office. Currently the Director of the UP Theater Complex and a board member of the Office for Initiatives in Culture and the Arts, Estrella was Artistic Director of Dulaang UP (2001 – 2007), the Executive and Artistic Director of Tanghalang Pilipino (2009 – 2010) and Associate Artistic Director of the Virgin Labfest (2009 – 2011). The University conferred upon her the title of University Artist for her outstanding productivity as a director for the stage and other live events.
