Prof. Miclat-Janssen named University Artist (Artist II) for Theatre

(November 11) – Assistant Professor Banaue Miclat-Janssen of the Department of Speech Communication and Theatre Arts is among the 10 new UP Artists from the College of Arts and Letters included in the recently approved UP Arts Productivity System (APS) during the 1365th Meeting of the UP Board of Regents held on 4 November 2021.  She is named Artist II,  joining four regular faculty members of the Department in its roster of University Artists.

Miclat-Janssen earned her BA (Theatre Arts) degree from UP Diliman and has an MFA in Acting from the Brooklyn College of the City University of New York. She has been performing professionally for almost 30 years now. She appeared in many productions staged and produced by Dulaang UP and UP Playwright’s Theater. She specializes in teaching acting (Stanislavsky, Michael Chekhov, Uta Hagen), voice (Rodenburg, Linklater, Jones), movement (Alexander technique, basic stage combat), and improvisations.

Miclat-Janssen is also a recipient of the Hall of Fame Award from the Aliw Award.

The UP APS was established by the Board of Regents in its 1239th meeting in December 2008 as the counterpart for the arts of the UP Scientific Productivity System. It is aimed at encouraging outstanding productivity in the creative arts or in arts scholarship for national development.

Those conferred with the title “UP Artist” under the APS receive a monetary award given annually. Those who are UP Artist I receive P150,000, UP Artist II receive P200,000 while those who are UP Artist III receive P250,000 annually over a period of three years.

Since its institution, the Department has produced eight University Artists. Of these 8, five, including Miclat-Janssen, are still active as regular faculty members of the University – DSCTA CPR Team.
